Things to do in South Gippsland

South Gippsland Waterfalls

The South Gippsland region is home to some of the most stunning and spectacular waterfalls that Australia has to offer. From cascading waterfalls to thundering plunge pools, there is something here to suit everyone no matter your favourite type! Here are some of our favourites, for your next holiday in South Gippsland.

One of our favourites, mostly for its tranquility, is Tarra Falls. Located in the TarraBulga National Park, the falls are located on a roadside turnout, about 1km south of the Tarra Valley Picnic Area. While there are no facilities at the falls themselves, that’s ok! There’s no walk needed to reach the falls – they’re right there – so you’ll likely stop for a quick picture on your way to the other waterfalls in South Gippsland. The falls cascade down a steep rock face and plunge into a deep pool below, while there is also a path for visitors to get a closer look at the falls.

Another of our favourite waterfalls in South Gippsland is Agnes Falls. Located in the Strzelecki Ranges, this waterfall is Victoria’s largest single span waterfall at almost 60 metres high – they truly are a sight to behold. The viewing platform is located at the top of the falls, nestled away in the rainforest, and offers stunning views of falls themselves and the surrounds. Its a short walk from the carpark to reach the viewing platform and believe us, it is well worth the effort.

Little River Falls is another favourite and this one is spectacular. Located in the Snowy River National Park, these falls cascade down a rocky cliff face and into a deep gorge – the deepest in Victoria. Visitors can take a bushwalk around the falls and take in the majestic scenery that surrounds them.

South Gippsland is home to many other beautiful waterfalls, including Toorongo Falls, Narragan Falls, Morwell River Falls and Raymond Creek Falls. While these waterfalls didn’t make it to our “favourites”, they offer equally spectacular views and an opportunity to take in the beauty of the region. No matter which waterfall you choose to visit in South Gippsland, you are sure to be impressed by the sheer beauty and power of nature. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful waterfall that transcends in its beauty, or a thunderous waterfall that gets the heart pumping, South Gippsland has something to offer everyone. So why not take a trip and explore the natural wonders of the area, making Maple Ridge Cottages your accommodation choice for couples, singles or families.
