Tarra-Bulga National Park

TarraBulga National Park is a protected national park located in the in the Strzelecki Ranges, not far from Maple Ridge Cottages. Established in 1904, it’s one of the oldest national parks in Australia and was named after Charley Tarra, an Indigenous Burra Burra man who helped guide Count Paweł Strzelecki on his expedition through Gippsland in 1840.

The park is situated in the Strzelecki Ranges in South Gippsland and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. It encompasses a variety of habitats, including wet sclerophyll forests of mountain ash and with tree ferns abound. Home to a wide range of animals, including many species of birds (owls included) and wombats, wallabies and platypus. The park is a great place for visitors to explore, with its many walking trails and picnic areas making it a perfect day trip to explore the natural beauty.

The TarraBulga Rainforest Walk, which is an easy walk suitable for most levels of ability, takes in waterfalls, a suspension bridge and views of the rainforest canopy below. The track also passes through lush rainforest areas, where visitors can view a range of beautiful plants and animals. The 100-kilometre Grand Strzelecki Track connects the park with the adjacent Morwell National Park, but hikers should do their research before commencing, as it is a 3-4 day trek.
